Japanese uses three writing systems. Western names go through katakana, a phonetic alphabet: the sound of the name is transcribed, not its meaning. Thomas becomes トーマス, Emma becomes エマ.

Some Western sounds don't exist in Japanese: “v” becomes ヴ or ブ, “r” sits close to an “l” sound, and a lone consonant is followed by a vowel. That is why two transcriptions can both be correct for the same name.

As every piece is engraved for you, allow 7 to 10 days for making, plus 7 to 10 days for tracked delivery. The transcription approval email goes out right after your order: the sooner you reply, the sooner engraving starts.
